When Kim emailed asking if I’d do a portion of their engagement session at the Tulip Festival in Agassiz I was puuuumped!!! I’d never been before and had heard it was beautiful so I couldn’t wait to get out there and see what all the fuss was about. I’ll be honest that I expected more, though I’m not sure why because it was exactly as people had depicted it – row on row of beautiful colorful tulips – and yet somehow I was expecting something more….still left feeling confused about the whole thing 😉 Regardless, it was such a fun experience and the amount of people that showed up to walk the fields kinda blew me out of the water. Good thing we showed up right when the fields opened or we would never have been able to get these photos with hundreds of people milling about!!
Part 2 of this amazing engagement session will be hitting the blog tomorrow! You’ll want to stay tuned because it was super epic! One of my fave sessions to date!!! A little bit of rock climbing and love. No. big. deal. 😉
Kristy Klaassen - Awesome session, Char!
I do love the tulip fields, but I know what you mean. Thing is…it used to be MORE. There used to be (probably close to) twice the amount of acres of tulips. Kinda small now. Also, they close at 5:00 which sucks since then you can't get the great evening light. That's why I go every year in the evening, shoot along the road….and (shhhhhtt) sometimes quickly duck between the fences for a shot or two. 😉
Renae - beeeautiful! I’ve always wanted to go to a tulip field but never have. Even though it wasn’t what you expected the pictures are absolutely beautiful. Especially that one with the two of them kissing with the pink tulips all around…the clouds are so moody!
Rock Climbing Engagement Session : Agassiz Engagement Photographer - Charlene Stam Photography - […] So you’re emailing back and forth with a bride-to-be and you’re discussing ideas for engagement photos and you’re envisioning fields full of beautiful long grasses and flowers dancing in a soft spring breeze under the golden sun and you’re excited for the perfectly lit gorgeousness to come. And then your bride-to-be kinda rocks (this is punny, you’ll see…) your world a bit when she suggests having the photos taken during one of their rock climbing excursions and your mind comes screeching to a halt and you’re left wondering and worrying about how you’re ever going to DO something like that. You stress instantly about how in the world you are going to take engagement photos of two people hanging off a buncha ropes and climbing a rock wall. Oh, AND, how you’ll be making this happen around noon under the harsh mid day sun. OY! But, because you like your bride-to-bes and because one of your besties who’s also a photographer agrees to watch your kids for the entire day so you don’t feel a rush to get home you say “Suuuure, why the heck not!” and you cross your fingers that something will pretty please just work out (In full disclosure, they did give me the prettiness I desired during the first part of their engagement session at Agassiz Tulip festival. You can see those photos here.) […]
Charlene Stam - Somehow I missed your comment until now, Kristy, but thanks! 🙂 It definitely was still pretty there, I think I was just expecting way MORE flowers and way less busy-ness. BUT it was still a great experience over all 🙂
